2020.09.23 23:10 beeleedee3 Feeling like part of a black mirror episode part 2

I had a few people asking for more of my creepy encounters after posting this one https://www.reddit.com/creepyencounters/comments/iy03ig/felt_like_i_was_in_a_episode_of_black_mirro?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
  1. When I first started to hang around with this friend we'd often go on walks and hang around in parks etc. This one park we often went to was right next to a cemetery. One day we decided to walk through the cemetery and search for the oldest date on the headstones.
As we walked through we noticed the dates were going back into the 1700's and were shocked that we'd found ones this old. It was getting really dark at this point as we'd been out for awhile and the cemetery had no lighting. We decided it was probably best to head out at this point, as it got darker it got more creepy.
Slowly heading for the exit making sure we go careful. I look up and notice a floating ball of light not far ahead of us hovering over a grave. I point this out to my friends and one of them says it must be a solar panelled light that comes on at night. So we decided to walk closer and check it out. The ball of light stayed in the same place as we approached it and it definitely was not a lamp, there was nothing there. We all stood staring not sure how we felt about what we're seeing. And out of nowhere the ball just started to move away into the darkness, we watched it go and all of my goosebumps were out.
The grave had not long been there. My friend checked the headstone and that person was buried the same year. We decided it was a good idea to leave at this point. But as we turned to quickly get out of there we noticed another ball of light just over to the left of us. My friend got her phone out and shon her light over in that direction, and the ball was hovering infront of a very large statue, at least 2m high, of an angel. This was a grave stone I do believe but it really reminded me of the wheeping angels from Doctor Who so that was me straight out of the cemetery.
I did not go back here, but the two friends I was with did. A few days after this incident I was at home and them two went back. This time they headed straight for the angel statue. They had a little look around the area and checked to see if the person had a matching surname to the other grave where we'd seen the ball of light but they did not match, although they could of been related or friends. When they were at the grave, one of them found an old key. And she decided to take it home with her.
Later that night the three of us were on Skype as they told me about their visit to the cemetery and begun telling me the story about how they found they key. It was just laying on the floor right infront of the angel statue perfectly placed, not on angle, just sat parallel to the headstone. As if someone wanted it to be found.
As we spoke about it and the lights we'd seen days before, my friends camera started to go all pixelated. This is the friend that had taken the key home with her. Her camera froze and in the background just behind her was a face, it genuinely looked like a cherub but it not in a good way.
We could still hear her, and heard her let out a little scream. We were asking her what was wrong and if she was okay. She disappeared for a few minutes and reappeared holding the key to show me. As she entered her room with the key her camera suddenly started working again and we asked what had happened. She said she felt a tap on her shoulder. On her right hand side. Where we'd seen the cherub. But she wasn't aware of it until we told her when she came back.
The key wasn't just a normal looking house key, it looked like one that'd be used for the wardrobe to enter Narnia or something. It was a fancy looking key and it definitely intrigued us as to what it was for. But something just didn't feel right about it. Especially after this encounter.
For a few days after this my friend kept having weird experiences at home, she'd hear footsteps and noises around her house that she'd never heard before. Felt like she was being followed by something that wasn't there either. And worst of all, she kept having nightmares. And in each one she kept seeing angels and the same number repeating in all of these dreams.
So after these experiences we decided it was a good idea to put the key back where it was found. I did not go to do this as I wanted nothing to do with it incase whatever it was made an attachment to one of us. After the key was returned, the nightmares stopped and so did the weird occurrences at her home. We never returned to the cemetery either.
Since this happened though, an exact copy of the angel statue has been placed near the other one, as you can see them both at the back hiding in the shadows surrounded by trees when you drive past. And still to this day they terrify me.
  1. My two friends were walking to meet me, I did not live too far away but it was getting dark and the area we lived in was rough so we decided it was best for us to meet halfway to save me from walking the full distance on my own. They set off a little after me so I got a head start.
As I walked to meet them I got a phone call off one of them, when I answered she was just screaming and shouting. I could not make a word out with what she was saying to me. It sounded like they were running as I could hear feet hitting the ground and the wind blowing into the mic. Eventually I made out "don't walk. Stay there" and the phone went dead.
At the point in the walk that I was at, was a block of shops that I'd just have to walk past to be on a straight road to where they'd be meeting me. I decided to walk past just the block of shops so that I could see them coming down that straight road. As I rounded the corner I saw my two friends sprinting towards me with terrified expressions on their faces.
Within seconds they were at my side and grabbed my arms pulling me into the nearest shop as they ran. I asked what was happening and if everything was okay and they both stood panting trying to spit out what had scared them so much. As they both collected their breath I managed to make out parts of the story.
They were walking along minding their own business, it was dark out at this point so they were heavily relying on street lights to be able to see further ahead of them. Talking between the two of them, they got to a huge corner and begun to walk around it without looking across the road. As they got further round this huge corner, one looked up to see a dark off road, with a single streetlight lit.
Stood under the street light was a man with his hood up and a mask on. She nudged the other one and she looked up in that direction, still walking as they were across the road from the man. They felt something was dodgy but not like they were in any danger.
That was until the guy caught them both staring at him as they walked, so he dropped his trousers and started aggressively masturbating whilst watching them. At this point they ran, whilst trying to ring me and stop me from walking towards them. The man pulled his trousers up and ran at them too.
The area the man was stood, was a shortcut through for where I'd be walking to so if they hadn't have rang me I'd of walked down a dark alley and a dark road, straight into this creepy man exposing himself to underage girls and masturbating at them.
We decided it was best to stay in the shop for a little while as this had spooked them and put me on edge too. As we headed down the first aisle after standing and talking for awhile so I could get the story off them, I turned to find a guy stood looking at us weirdly. My friends had walked off ahead so I sped up to catch them up and told them, as we were all on edge at this point. They turned to look at him and instantly recognised the shoes and clothes he was wearing as the creepy guy who was stood on the corner. So that explains the way he was watching us.
They instantly looked panicked so we decided to stay in the store where it was lit, there was many people and staff around if he was to do anything and if we needed any help. He kept appearing around the shop watching us but we kept changing aisles to get away from him. Eventually we tricked him into thinking we were going to pay for our items on the self service tills so he did the same, and we walked off without scanning any in and went back into the aisles.
We kept peaking to see when he'd gone and he eventually walked out. We saw him walk past the side of the store as its full glass windows and he looked fuming but kept his eyes on us as he walked off. Deciding it was a bad idea to leave straight away we stayed in the store and when we left we headed the opposite direction to what we saw him go.
Even later on when we walked back that way we were on edge. As we neared the area that he had done his disgusting act, a man on a bike kept going past us and staring. Making us think that this was him, but decided that there was safety in numbers so we all wanted to get home safely as my mate could not get a ride home. Thankfully nothing happened after that.
After discussing it with parents, they reported it to the police and within a few weeks it was found that numerous reports had been made about the same man doing this in surrounding areas. He had a wife and kids, and was working on a site across the road from the block of shops where he'd stalked us around. So he knew the area well and knew that the shortcut was used often and badly lit. This to me shows he had bad intentions to do something to someone as he'd put himself in a perfect spot for this to happen.
That person could and would have been me if I had set off a few minutes earlier I'd have been caught in his trap. At the time I was only about 14 too. He got charged for what he did and apparently he admitted to the police that he had a serious problem.

2020.09.23 22:45 TheCyhiraeth $19k Pre-COVID, $6k Post-Covid Connecticut Wedding Budget and Recap

Hi Weddit!
I did the thing and got married last week! It was amazing, even with COVID going on. Sadly, no official pictures yet. (I do have some photos of setup and flowers if anyone would like those.) This subreddit was helpful to me while planning, especially the budget recaps, so I wanted to return the favor and help someone else out!
I got engaged in summer 2019, pre-COVID, and started planning then. So, this breakdown will go through what I had planned pre-COVID for a 140 person wedding, and also my cut down COVID wedding. Both in Connecticut--the original wedding was planned at a venue, and the smaller one was at an AirBNB. For anyone looking into an AirBNB wedding, maybe this will help!
Pre-COVID, 140 person wedding breakdown:
Here, I cover the costs of vendors that were booked, with deposits down, and any other significant anticipated spend for the big wedding. Costs that remained the same over both weddings are shown with the small wedding breakdown, later! Apologies if this ends up confusing!
Venue: $4500
The venue was a park on the beach in New Haven with a lighthouse and carousel. The plan was to have the wedding on the beach, and the reception in the carousel building. The venue did provide chairs and table for indoors, but I had to arrange for outdoor rentals and linens.
Catering: $5500
Our catering was BBQ, and it was amazing! (We did keep the same caterer for the smaller wedding). The cost included apps for cocktail hour and the reception dinner. It also covered staff to help set up, serve, and clean up.
Cake: $330
The cake was a 2-tier cake to feed about 20 people, with sheet cakes on the side for the remaining guests.
Photography: $1380
The photographer was booked for 6 hours, and had some prints/art as part of the package. She showed me some examples of previous beach weddings, and they were stunning! More on photog later.
DJ: $850
The DJ and MC were lovely and were working with me to plan special songs/dances and keep the night flowing.
JP: $300
Loved our JP! We did use her for small wedding, more later.
Day of Coordinator: $850
Our DoC was lovely! We had planned to have her for the night of our reception, and she would help with setup and cleanup of everything. She helped me when I had planning questions and checked in periodically to ask what I was working on and what she could help with. Sadly, we did not get to see her in action on the day of.
Bartending: $900
The bartending fee covered the bartenders, non-alcoholic drinks, garnishes, helping to mix signature cocktails, and bar supplies. They were awesome with planning and I am sad I didn’t get to see them in action.
Liquor: $1000
This was an estimate based on 140 people, as my husband (ahh!) and I were going to be responsible for liquor ourselves. Our actual purchase is outlined in the small wedding!
Rentals, dishes, linens: $1200
This cost was for renting outdoor ceremony chairs (venue provided indoor chairs only), cocktail tables for cocktail hour, tablecloths, napkins, dishes, silverware, glassware. I used a couple different vendors in the area to book these, as some had better prices on items, such as tables, than others. Linens I planned to purchase myself from LinenTablecloth.com (and I did for the small wedding!)
Total estimated cost: $19,643
This includes all the décor, flowers, misc. items not talked about above!
Post-COVID, 12-person wedding breakdown:
Due to COVID, our venue ended up cancelling all 2020 events. CT also set requirements on guests at 25 people inside, 100 outside. Since our reception was planned to be indoors, I knew we would have to cut down in size. In the end, we decided on 12 guests (14 with JP and Photographer). The guest list included me, my husband, our immediate families, and 1 close friend each. In the end, I am sad that we ended up having to cancel some vendors that we truly loved, but it was a much more intimate and personal experience for everyone.
To the budget!
Venue: $4200
Almost the same cost as for the bigger wedding, but this time was an AirBNB. I booked a beautiful, old mansion for 3 nights. We used it for the rehearsal dinner, wedding, and a post-wedding brunch! It was roomy enough to have all guests stay overnight and had a pool table, tennis, ping pong, and a lovely yard. It ended up being a perfect spot for an intimate wedding.
Catering: $745
We kept the same BBQ caterer and same menu, but this time cut down to feed about 20 people instead of 140. We loved them and the food was amazing!
Cake: $115
We kept the same baker, as my husband loved her more than anyone else we looked at. We kept our 2 tiered cake, and just removed the extra sheet cakes from the order. Part of me wishes I had kept the order for the sheet cakes though…cake for days!!!
Photography: $950
We kept our same photographer, but went from 6 hours down to 4 hours. She was incredible! She came up with some creative and fun shots for us to do, and I am looking forward to getting my pictures back. I’m not that comfy in posed pictures, but she made us feel confident.
JP: $300
Kept our JP. She was kind and flexible with the location change. She also worked with us to customize the ceremony to be exactly what we wanted. My husband is not a gushy romantic, so we were able to customize the ceremony to be personal without sounding too cheesy or like a fairy tale.
Videographer: $50
This was my dad! Since not everyone in our families could be present, we live streamed our wedding over Zoom. I bought a tablet holder, microphone, and super long USB cable off Amazon and we used it to set up Zoom on my dad’s tablet. (We already had a tripod at home.) He set up the call to start recording once he logged in, so we automatically had a video of our ceremony. The relatives had a blast chatting with each other pre- and post-ceremony. My dad also walked the tripod around during the portrait session so the relatives could feel like they were with us, mingling.
Liquor: $120
We stopped at a liquor store and bought some of our favorite wines, beer, and ciders.
Linens, dishes: $80
I bought tablecloths and napkins off LinenTablecloth.com, and a disposable party dinnerware set off of Amazon. The set included dinner plates, dessert plates, silverware, and cups for I think around 50 people. They were surprisingly good quality, and I don’t think anyone minded that they were disposable.
Dress and alterations: $300
I chose a beautiful dress off Azazie and had it tailored at a local seamstress. It fit me fantastically! I didn’t want to spend more than $500 on the dress, so Azazie was a good fit for me. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and customer service.
Hairpieces: $25
Bought a sparkly wedding headband and hair clip off Amazon. Loved them.
Flowers: $70
I bought 50 roses off of Costco and stopped at the grocery store to pick up extra flowers I thought would look nice. Greenery I cut out of my yard off some bushes that were overgrown. Then I made the bouquets for me and 3 bridesmaids the morning before the wedding. I was so pleased how they turned out, and not to toot my own horn, I got some compliments from the family and vendors! 😊 Spare flowers and greenery were used to decorate the arch, which I did with my sisters-in-law the morning of the wedding.
Stationery: $70
I purchased save the dates off of Vistaprint in postcard format for my husband's side, since we didn’t have all his family’s emails. I did my save the dates using Paperless Post, since I did have most everyone’s email. When we cancelled our big wedding, we ordered cancellation postcards from Vistaprint, and Paperless Post let me notify everyone for free!
Misc.: ~$100?
My fiancé is very handy and built us an arch out of metal piping. Other misc décor included dollar tree vases, cake stand from Marshalls, robes for bridesmaids.
No DJ, rentals, day of coordinator, or bartenders for this wedding. The DJ was me making a Spotify playlist, and one of my sisters in law monitoring a Bluetooth speaker. Bartending was done just by setting glasses on the table, and beewine out on the counters. My husband did make a whiskey blackberry cocktail and we served it in my parent’s crystal punch bowl. The day of coordinator was mostly me with my endless spreadsheets, and my lovely family (both immediate and new in laws!), who all volunteered to complete tasks on my task sheet. I am happy to share spreadsheets or playlists if they would help anyone.
Total: $6500
Maybe that was a little costly than your normal small wedding/elopement, but we did cover lodging for our guests and had the venue for 3 nights. Overall, it was an incredible experience. If anyone has specific questions about vendors or the day please feel free to ask me!

2020.09.23 20:36 CLEARMYSKIN2 I am feeling regret over being scammed

In the summer 2018, I donated my eggs to my then boyfriend. Looking back, he love bombed me and has narcissistic personality disorder. I lived a sheltered life before I met him and was quite naive and trusting. In the love bombing phase, he was showering me with praise, affection, love, gifts, and promises of the future. Because I was so starved of love and had little self-esteem, I believed everything he said.
Then 2 months into the relationship, he asks me to be his egg donor. He wants to raise the children by himself, yet previously said that we will be together for years and years. It was confusing and conflicting on what I should believe. I laughed off the egg donation talk. He had offered me a large compensation for the egg donation, but still, I was not interested in giving away my eggs, my children. I was stalling and said I need 6 more weeks to think it over. I knew deep down I was going to say no.
That is when he started withholding affection. The love bombing phase was over and he pulled back. He made it clear through his actions he would not see me unless I started the egg donation process. I was extremely confused and bewildered since I never had someone come on so strongly before that. I panicked thinking it was something I did and if I did everything he wanted, I could win his affection back. Again, I was starved of love and dealt with mental health issues, so I was not thinking rationally. In hindsight, I wish I had enough strength to not bend for him and moved on with my life. I still did not want to do the egg donation. I contacted the fertility clinic and told them to cancel my appointment. In the past, he said if I did not do the egg donation, he would still date me. Well, he had since changed his mind and when he found out I canceled, he immediately broke up with me, blocked me, and would not respond to my pleas to talk.
I had a mental break down and cracked due to the confusion over him withholding affection. I caved and emailed him while crying that I will do the egg donation because I had nothing in life. I had no friends, no college degree, and no bright future. Only then did he respond in a robotic fashion saying that he is happy to hear that I will do the egg donation and he will have his personal assistant reschedule the appointment. I was in shock. It felt like my brain snapped and I turned into a different, desperate person. This was not my normal personality. It was the perfect storm of terrible things going on in my life, so my desperation for someone to love me was strong.
Weeks go by and he still won't see me. I go to the clinic for testing and magically his schedule opens up and he sees me the day after my testing. It felt like I got a hit of drugs finally winning his approval. He agreed to see me again from then on out, but at the bare minimum, which I would sadly accept his bread crumbs of time.
The egg donation happens and he turned back into the old version of himself. He showered me with praise, compliments, love, and gifts. He asked me to pick out the children's names and said I can help raise the child. Previously, he would flip flop on if I could be in the children's lives. I was in heaven. I thought I finally won the old version back. Then he received my eggs and slowly that dream of him faded and he turned back into the old him.
Weeks before the egg donation, he offered to send me 25% of the egg donation compensation. I panicked because I knew deep down I did not want to do the egg donation and I wanted to run again. I had run once before and accepting that money would lock me in for going forward. I also worried about taxes on the compensation. Egg donation is taxable income, but he wanted to give it as a gift. Because the relationship was so fragile, I had severe anxiety over him abruptly leaving me again. I was walking on egg shells. If I blew it, his love would be gone. If I argued with him about taxes, I worried he would get mad and leave. Transferring large sums of money back and forth if I ran again and then changed my mind would get me in trouble with the banks and that also scared me.
I told him to wait. I stupidly told him to wait since I trusted him. I put him on a pedestal of trust when he did not deserve that image. I figured every time he mistreated me, it was my fault, so I always put everything on me instead of him, which kept the angelic image of him in my head going.
Now was the moment of truth. Did donating my eggs make him love me again? Did I win his affection and approval enough to garner respect? Answer: no. He pulled back even more. Again, I desperately wanted his approval and also to keep up the chance at being with the children. He said prior that I could help raise them, after all. If I took the egg donation compensation, he would want me to move on with my life. I wanted to keep the relationship going and keep my chances up of being with the children also. I guess I could be seen as selfish and that's my fault.
30 days after the egg donation, he gets into legal trouble not concerning me. I thought I would be a total jerk if I asked for the large compensation while he was dealing with that stress. I put off payment. I conjured up a secret plan that near the child's birth, I would offer a deal. If he let me be in the child's life as a nanny, I would severely decrease my compensation. Because he changed his mind often on if the baby could see me, I wanted to wait until closer to the birth.
He continues to pull back on dates and it continues the cycle of hurt. Months after the egg donation, I bring up compensation. By this time, he had been arrested for his crimes not concerning me. When I talk about compensation, he looks around the room and says, "Do you have enough money to support yourself?" I panic. What kind of response is that? At this point, the surrogate is pregnant with my embryo. I had extreme anxiety that if I angered him, I could not see my genetic child. He was the most capricious man I knew and it frightened me. If I pushed the subject, I worried I would ruin the date, which dates were happening less and less. I was foolishly more focused on appeasing him than the compensation. I dropped the compensation subject. i figured I would be doing him a favor and be nice.
Weeks before the child's birth, I bring up compensation again. This is when I planned on bringing up the secret deal that if he let me be the child's nanny, I would decrease the compensation. Days after scheduling, his assistant informs me they found out the baby was not genetically mine after all. I learned at that moment there were multiple eggs donors that he was dating. I was heartbroken. All I could do at the meeting was to hope he keeps his word and pays me what I was promised.
At the meeting, he is cold and distant. He is bitter he has to pay me. He says, "But there's no babies, only miscarriages." True, but egg donors are paid as a service fee, not even for pain and suffering. He eventually changed his tune and said he'll pay me. He said that begrudgingly. It is not like he can't make anymore children, he still has 3 embryos of mine at the clinic frozen.
Because I was his girlfriend and someone he called the mother of his children, he would help me financially. He would also buy me gifts for my birthday, Valentine's day, etc. One birthday and Christmas I told him he did not have to buy me gifts, just take me out to dinner. I would also buy him gifts and every time I saw him, I would bring him luxury chocolates because it made him happy.
He sent me the egg donation contract. It took him 13 weeks to write that contract, so it was clear he was stalling. In the contract, every gift he gave me over our 2 year relationship was unbeknownst taken out of the egg donation compensation. A man who called me the mother of his children stuck me with the bill for every gift. I increased my risk of cancer doing the egg donation, yet he stuck me with the bill. I was not upset over the money lost, but more the sheer disrespect, especially when he treated me so poorly throughout the relationship emotionally. He was also canceling my right to know what he did with the remaining embryos, which meant I would have to walk this earth wondering I had children. I was not going to sign that right away when I did the egg donation with right that originally promised.
I was hurt and fuming mad. I wrote him a long letter telling him how much his contract insulted me. He ignored me. He ignored me for 4 months straight without paying me. He even tried to make me homeless during a global pandemic when he had his assistant contact my building's manager to get his name off my lease as the guarantor out of spite. He had been graciously covering the cost of my rent since I thought he cared about me, yet he also stuck me with the bill in the contract. Because I was not paid for the egg donation, I did not have income coming in to reapply as my own guarantor for the apartment. He knew that. I had no friends to be the guarantor. The only job I could get with my credentials would be a low paying job with risk of COVID, which would get me rejected if I reapplied to the lease alone. It frightened me how far his rage went. The manager would not remove his name as the guarantor.
4 months of silence from him and he finally responded. He accused me of harassing and extorting him, when all I wanted to do was fix the situation. It was clear he did not want to pay me, which was painful. My previous email to him even said I wasn't look for money, I was looking to make up, yet he accused me of extortion.
I had also learned that the other egg donors were paid in 2018, yet he was still paying their rent and giving them gifts on top of the egg donation compensation, yet was sticking me with my own bill. It wasn't fair to me and continued making me feel worthless.
It has been 9 months since he sent the contract and began ignoring me. To this day, I still try to contact him to make things better, but he won't talk. I have no legal rights to the money because the contract I signed through the clinic was fraudulent. If the clinic knew the amount of compensation I was actually paid, I would have been failed from the clinic due to ethics. If I was failed, he would break up with me. Stupid me didn't realize our previous emails talking about compensation held no value, along with the clinic contract. I have talked to multiple lawyers and there is nothing I can do for the compensation.
Now I am left picking up the pieces. I planned my future with him and the babies, but that dream is dashed. I went to therapy over everything and I need to go back, but it is too expensive and I don't have insurance. I feel exploited, violated, and abused. I'm aware I set myself up and I have myself to blame. I chose love over money and now I feel like a fool.

2020.09.23 20:00 mashumba-270 How do I [27m] get the LOML [27f] back when we had initially broken up and were trying to work things out then I fucked up by lying about sleeping with another woman [29f escort] during our break up when I didn’t need to lie???

Guys it’s a really fucked up situation I find myself in, so grab your popcorn and get ready for story time. I first met this beautiful girl [27f] just over 4 years ago. She was stunning, and my feelings grew to her so quickly. We got together, and I was the happiest man alive, but maybe I just didn’t show it well enough. She was my peace, she calmed me and she knew how to love me in all the love languages that make me the man I am including quality and acts of service this girl was everything.
PAY ATTENTION HERE... Fast forward to around 1.5 years into the relationship, she caught me messaging some escorts that I had been introduced to by work colleagues (fucked up I know) at that time I was working for one of the Big 4 so I am sorry but from my experience drugs, alcohol abuse and sex are just a norm...it’s work hard play hard. Anyway she was hurt, but we were on holiday when she found these messages on my phone, the reality is I actually had no intention of doing anything I was just very curious to find out so I had asked them about prices etc because I was just really curious and never proceeded to do anything. Long story short on this part, we moved on from it but perhaps we didn’t iron it out or go into detail about it as were were on holiday and I thought we had moved on. I think she may have come across this again, but during another time but I had done it all at the same time so it wasn’t a repeat offence it was simply her finding out about another 2 escorts I had messaged on Instagram at a later date...trash I know l, but I have to be honest about everything in order to get the best advice and own up to my mistakes.
We then continued our relationship, we were thriving and I was always content with her she gave me her all. She wasn’t perfect don’t get me wrong but that’s reality we are all imperfect but we do try, and in her case it was nowhere near anything I had done just some minor hiccups.
Fast forward to last year, we broke up. She cited differences in our paths and where we were in life. I am reasonably successful and have done pretty well career wise so I am grateful. She wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to pursue and she was going through a tough time and felt I didn’t supper her emotionally, which I admit. It was tough, and I had lost the love of my life (LOML), I didn’t think I would ever be able to move on.
During our break up we didn’t talk for a few months and then we slowly began to talk again when I reached out to her and meeting up towards the end of last year and beginning of this year. I really wanted her back and I really cared about her.
KEY PART SO PAY ATTENTION HERE AGAIN... During the month of ~October last year I slept with an escort who I had met. Me and my ex were not taking at the time and I didn’t think we had a chance I thought we were done. Me and the escort became friends along with some of her mother friends both male and female (not all escorts). I slept with this woman 3 times, once for consideration and the other 2 for no consideration as we had become “friends with benefits” so to call it. This was the lowest point of my life, I didn’t know how I got here, my head was gone and torn from splitting with who I thought I would never split with. I don’t know how I let this happen. But I accepted it and I moved on.
I was getting therapy at this time, I had a lot of issues around my anger, the neglect and reject I felt from never meeting my biological father and I finally accepted I was addicted to pornography, I found my place with God again after this had happened which I ironed out and I managed to get my head straight again and found my place with God.
With the above in mind, I stayed friends with the escort and we would chat sometimes where on FaceTime her and the other friends I had become friends with would just chat, it was no longer a friends with benefits thing at all. We continued to chat even until this year as much as 2/3 months ago but we would chat maybe once every month just to catch up because we were just cool.
NOW TO THE RECENT EVENTS KEY KEY PART... Before went away on holiday recently I wanted to tell her what had happened during our break up, specifically that I had slept with an escort, so I asked her in the home she would say she has slept with someone else and then I would admit I did too which was fine as we were not together, but she said not and immediately I got scared that if I said yes she would be hurt and decide to cut things off and not work out getting back together. So what did I do? I lied and I said I didn’t sleep with anyone...bit mistake. She said okay and we carried on fine.
We went away recently, had a great time and got to spend some time together. But during our holiday she went through my phone and messages. She then saw the messages messages with the escort, and unfortunately I had said things like I’ll cone over but it was to hang out nothing more and she will obviously not believe that that was true. She saw images where the escort had sent pics of her friends trying to her me to come over and I had even said I am never coming there again. So, as you can see, I asked her about sleeping with someone else, she said no, I lied, and then she found I lied and worst of all with an escort, which took us right back to the curiosities I had had when she caught me messaging escorts ~2.5 years before that.
WHERE WE ARE NOW We got back from our holidays and she decided to end things and not pursue getting back together. She cited that I have a problem with escorts and she finds it hard to trust me. She worries too much and our trust is broken. She loves me, but love is not enough.
Now I know you may think I am trash and I own up to my mistakes. But I had genuinely changed and I had got over all this escort stuff and was moving on with my life. But she struggled to see that as believe that. I am devastated she has decided to not work things out, and I am truly hurt that I may have lost the LOML forever.
TL;DR! , what can I do and how can I get her back? I have been honest ask I can get the best advice with no prejudice.

2020.09.23 19:27 mashumba-270 How do I [27m] get the LOML [27f] back when we had initially broken up and were trying to work things out then I fucked up by lying about sleeping with another woman [29f escort] during our break up when I didn’t need to lie???

2020.09.23 13:29 gweeeeeeeeeeeen Life after redundancy.. just a rant

Hey fellow fa’s I have been made redundant a while ago due to COVID. FYI I am on furlough for a few years, early 20’s.
After COVID I went on a couple of trips around my country. It was nice. I got to start a couple of hobbies I wanted to do and still maintaining it. I have started studying at university to see if I could learn a subject I’ve been interested in. This is where it hits me.
I am not enjoying uni. Mainly because of 1) not making money, using my savings makes me sad 2) I don’t like the papers I’m doing & not doing well in it. I regret starting uni at this point as I saw this coming but still went with it. But I’ve paid for it(although the government is supposed to, so I’m waiting for a refund) so have to stick with it. I’ve got a couple of months until the semester ends and honestly, I just want to be stop bothered by it, find a job and make money. I have decided I’m not going to continue next year, mainly due to financial problems. Then here’s another issue.
I grew up wanting to be involved in the aviation/tourism industry—nothing else. I’ve been doing well on that part until COVID ruined it. No aviation/tourism companies are hiring, which I understand. I don’t know what to do. I’m lost. All I’ve been staring at, growing up is (mainly)flight attending, ground staff and such(After high school/college, I attended tourism school for flight attending course). Yes, I can go to customer service based jobs. But I’m scared that I won’t enjoy or last long because 1) fa jobs were perfect for me 2) not interest in any other industry. I’m afraid of interviews. I can’t even think of answers to those interview questions that you can find online.
It’s like.. breaking up with your dream boyfriend/partnehusband or whatever and then having to date someone way less, like WAY LESS. I don't know. I do want to start in other things like trades, but that’s next year... I just don’t know how I can get through the rest of the year in uni. I’m not motivated at all to listen to any lectures or do tests and assignments. I don’t understand most of the things I’ve been taught. I just don’t want to try. Whenever I have financial or other problems, I tend to think about my life before COVID and how great it was. How great having my dream job was. How great getting paid to do something I love was. Then I get depressed and sad. Like right now.
I know I can’t keep blaming COVID, that I have to move on. But I don’t know.. I’m lost for legit first time in my life. I’ve always planned out and had somewhat of a plan in my mind before. My mum was so proud of how independent I was and what I’ve done alone. But now... I don’t see anything in my future. All I hope is that my company to call me back for a fa job.

2020.09.23 09:27 Giora_Thorntree Oki Islands

Overview
The Oki Islands are a small archipelago in the Sea of Japan, roughly 50km off the north coast of Shimane prefecture. On a clear day, they are clearly visible from the Japanese mainland. However, the distance is enough that the islands feel distinctively remote, and have their own pace of life.
The islands are the remnants of two large volcanoes which sit on the sea bed. One of the volcanoes has produced only one large main island - Dogo, also known as "Okinoshima" - which is where the bulk of the Oki's population live: there are about 20,000 people on the island. The other volcano has produced scores of islands, though only 3 are inhabited: Chibu, Ama, and Nishinoshima. These islands cluster around each other, with the underwater caldera of the volcano forming a little "inland sea", in an area known collectively as "Dozen". Only about 5000 people live on the 3 Dozen islands in total.
History
The Oki Islands have been inhabited as long as the rest of Japan, and were incorporated into the earliest Japanese states, much like neighboring regions of Honshu. The islands comprise their own Japanese province: Oki. Always a small and lightly populated province, it was kept independent because of transportation issues, and the difficulties of trying to administer it from the mainland. The only real famous episodes of history that occurred on the Oki Islands were during the Kamakura Era, when two emperors were sent into exile on the islands after rising up against the Kamakura government. In the early 13th century, the first Kamakura era emperor Go-Toba's rebellion was ultimately unsuccessful, and he spent 19 years on Ama before dying a lonely death. A hundred years later, Go-Daigo was only in the Oki's for a year, before escaping, Napoleon-style, back to the mainland, where he triumphantly re-enterred Kyoto, briefly became ruler of all Japan, and then had to flee again and establish an alternative court in Yoshino. The Oki's make the most of their connections to these emperors.
In modern times, the islands are the base of the Liancourt Rocks dispute, with Japan claiming that the Korean controlled uninhabitable rocks are part of the Oki Islands. The Oki's are peppered with propaganda declaring that "Takeshima" (as the Liancourt Rocks are known in Japanese) are an inalienable part of Japan.
To and from the Islands
There's an airport on Dogo, with limited flights. Most visitors come and leave by boat. Three large vehicle ferries, and one smaller high-speed passenger ferry run between the islands and the mainland, as well as between Dogo and the Dozen islands. There are at least 2 boats a day on most routes. Two ports on the mainland are served: Sakaiminato, in Tottori Prefecture, and the port of Shichirui, in Matsue, Shimane, which is in a remote location, but has good road access. In addition, there are many ferry services each day running the short hops between the three Dozen islands.
The ferry services are among the highlights of visiting the Oki's. The islands look spectacular from the sea, and the ferries round remote capes and off-shore islands that are difficult to get to by other means. For the best views, use the slower, cheaper car ferries rather than the high-speed boat.
Getting around the islands
RENTING A CAR - Cars can be rented on the islands, and are a particularly good bet on Dogo, which is large. The car companies tend to run policies which suit island travel reality, offering good rates on 24-hour rentals, for example, which will give you a car between two ferry sailings. Being small, the number of cars on offer is limited, and rental cars sell out during busy vacation periods.
CYCLING - You can rent bicycles on the island, though the Oki's are very hilly. Dogo is roughly 100km around, and with lots of big hills along the way, it's not suited for a day cycle unless you're practicing for the Tour de France.
BUS - Bus services on the islands tend to be infrequent, but many places of interest are served. The tourist offices tend to discourage use of buses - particularly on Dogo - but if strategically combined with some hiking, the buses can be very handy for getting around the islands.
HIKING - The islands are perfect for hiking! They're beautiful, roads are generally wide and little trafficked, and there's very good pedestrian infrastructure, with lots of pavements. Combined with the odd bus ride, hiking is a great way to explore the Oki's.
HITCHHIKING - Should be comparatively easy. Even without flagging anything down, we had several vehicles stop and ask if we wanted rides, and had multiple offers from people to drive us out their way to our destinations. In out of the way places, however, there are very few cars!
Accommodation
Hotels and minshuku can be found all over the islands. There are also lots of campsites on the islands, many with spectacular settings. Camping is recommended.
General infrastructure
There are no convenience stores on the islands. The only real supermarkets are in the main town on Dogo. Away from there, larger villages have some very basic grocery shops, but don't expect much! The main port areas on Ama and Nishinoshima have some restaurants. In general, you need to plan your food carefully on the Oki's, particularly if you don't have a car.
Tourist information offices were found at all the ports we visited. We found them very helpful, with useful maps and pamphlets, and an eagerness to answer questions. On the smaller islands, you can also use them as left luggage. Visitors to the Oki's should bring money with them, but if desperate, you can probably find useable ATM's at island post offices.
*General Sightseeing
The scenic beauty of the islands is undoubtedly the highlight. The coastal scenery in particular, with dramatic volcanic cliffs, and all kinds of rocky islets is worth the visit alone. On top of that, there are some nice historic and cultural sights, as well as a chance to mingle with the friendly locals, who still live in rather cut off, insular communities.
One word of warning: there are too many museums on the Oki's. Many of the museums and other ticketed attractions are only somewhat interesting, without much on display. The islands would benefit from an amalgamation of museums!
Dogo
The largest island in the Oki's. The main town lies in the south, sprawling for several kilometers around rice-filled valleys, rocky hills, and the coastline of a beautiful natural harbour. This is where the main port is. The port area is quite pretty, and has the biggest concentration of restaurants in the Oki's. The main shopping area is a few kilometers inland, and includes the islands' only real supermarkets.
Elsewhere, the island is a mess of coastal fishing village, rocky highlands, and remote, forested hills. The sights are spread out, and beautiful scenery is just about everywhere, particularly along the coast.
COASTAL SCENERY
The coast is gorgeous pretty much everywhere. Given the dramatic nature of the volcanic coastline, there are few places with coastal roads. Accessing coastal scenic spots often involves long jaunts in and out of the interior. Here are some selections of nice spots, going clockwise around the island from the main port. No doubt there is plenty of dramatic scenery elsewhere as well.
Saigo Bay - The Bay shares its name with the island's main port. This is the best natural harbour on Dogo. There are some very pretty roads running alongside the bay.
Airport cliffs - Just below the airport are some beautiful, dramatic cliffs. They're most easily seen from the ferries.
Candlestick Rock - One of the island's most famous spots, this is a pointy rock which sticks out of the sea a little like a candle. It's surrounded by more dramatic coastal scenery. One way to see it is to take a sightseeing boat, though there are also some spots on the island from where you can see it and more dramatic scenery, including the pretty village of Kumi.
Shirashima - The island's most beautiful spot! Stunning volcanic scenery here, including gorgeous white cliffs, like a volcanic Dover. There are hiking trails along the cliffs, as well as a beautiful viewpoint. The nearby village of Igo is my pick as the island's prettiest, located in highlands overlooking a stunning bay, framed by volcanic scenery.
Nakamura - The village of Nakamura has more rocky cliffs, as well as a pretty little beach.
Jodogoaura - Another well known spot, with lots of little rocky islets, and dramatic cliffs, some so dramatic that they have fallen down and destroyed the hiking trails. Less visited (and indeed less beautiful) than Shirashima, there are still some hiking trails that remain here, as well as nice viewpoints.
Kuroshima - This is a small offshore island composed of hexagonal column rocks, a la the Giant's Causeway. The coastline here is very beautiful. There's a viewpoint on the main road, high above the sea, where you get nice views of the island.
INLAND SCENERY
We didn't visit much in the interior, but the mountains of Dogo hold various attractions, including a notable waterfall, some old cedar trees, and the habitat of the endemic Oki salamander. Many roads to these places are currently closed, making them difficult to visit. In the north of the island, there are some pretty highlands, including grasslands grazed by cows. Pheasants are also quite common.
CULTURAL SIGHTS
Nature Museum - Just across the street from the port is a nature museum, dedicated to the island's natural geography. It's not the most interesting museum in the country, but will at least teach you about some of the Oki's unique wildlife.
Tamawakasu-Mikoto Jinja - Within walking distance of the port, this shrine is the island's top cultural site. Three buildings here - the Honden, a small gate, and a house built for the shrine's priest - are an Important Cultural Property (ICP). The Honden is a large, beautiful structure in a style unique to the Oki islands. There's also a very old cedar tree on the shrine grounds. Next door is an interesting little museum, housing just a handful of historic artifacts. The highlight here are three copper artifacts from the Nara era - two bells used by official envoys traveling between the Oki's and the capital (Nara/Kyoto), as well as an official provincial government tax seal. All three are very rare official government articles of the era.
Kokubun-ji - Oki's Kokubun-ji bizarrely charges an entrance fee, though there isn't much to see. The temple burned down once in the 19th century and then again in the 20th century, so its old statues have been reduced to little more than charcoal. Slightly more interesting are a small collection of Nara era roof tiles which have been dug up at the site. The Kokubun-ji is also one of two locations in the Oki's which claims to have been the site of Go-Daigo's "palace", so there are also the ruins of that, as well as a small shrine dedicated to the former Emperor on the temple grounds.
Mizuwakasu Jinja - In the north of the island, in one of its larger valleys, this is another interesting shrine. The highlight here is the large, imposing Honden, built in the unusual local style. There are two museums next to the shrine. We only visited one, which is housed in a couple of interesting historic buildings, both of which were moved here from elsewhere on the island. One is an early Meiji Western-style office building, which once housed the Oki's main government offices; the other is a traditional farmhouse.
Isemikoto Jinja - If you can't get enough of Oki-style Honden, this shrine, in the pretty village of Kumi, has one dating from the late Edo period. It's noted for its rather distinctive carvings of dragons on the front of the building.
Tsuma Boathouses - The village of Tsuma is noted for its unusual boat houses, built on the beach. We didn't get a chance to visit.
Sasaki Residence - In the barely inhabited village of Kama, this residence is considered the best preserved old house on the Oki's. It was built for the local village chief, at a time when the village was much more prosperous. It's an impressive, rather upscale house, open with a ticket. If you speak Japanese, the caretaker will try and explain just about every artifact in the house to you, and may even inexplicably ply you with croissants.
Nishinoshima
The largest of the Dozen islands, this is a big step down from Dogo, with a fraction of its population. There are three main population centers, none of which is more than a small village: Beppu, where the main port and bulk of facilities are; a network of villages spread out around a very pretty bay, right in the middle of the island; and the very sleepy Urago, which has a modern coffee shop to help wake you up, but little else. The highlight of Nishinoshima is its incredible coastal cliffs.
KUROKI-GOSHO
Very close to Beppu port, this is the other site in the Oki's which claims to have once housed Emperor Go-Daigo. There's little to see at the site itself, though its located at the top of a little hill, and offers nice views. There's a tiny museum at the site, where Go-Daigo's story is told.
MT. TAKUHI
The tallest mountain in the Dozen islands, this is the remnant of the main volcano which created the islands in the first place. It's surrounded by a large caldera, most of which is under the sea, though the northernmost section connects Mt. Takuhi to the rest of Nishinoshima Island. The mountain is about 450 meters high. You can drive a car up to 210 meters, but from there on you must proceed on foot. About halfway up the mountain is a dramatic shrine, with its Honden installed partially within a natural cave formed out of a massive volcanic rock. The shrine has very pretty buildings, which are an ICP. From the shrine grounds, as well as the top of the mountain itself, there are spectacular views all over Dozen and beyond.
CANAL AND BAY
In the middle of Nishinoshima sits a large, and very pretty, bay. At the north end of the bay, a small canal cut in the Taisho era effectively cuts the island in two. There are some nice cliffs here, as well as a beach. The bay is best appreciated from the large bridge that stands at its mouth.
YURAHIME JINJA - The most important shrine on the island, Yurahime Jinja has very pleasant, though rather modern, buildings. The shallow inlet next to the shrine is said to be full of squid, though I didn't see any when I visited.
CLIFFS - This is what the island is known for! Most of Nishinoshima is essentially the edge of the caldera of a massive, extinct volcano, and the volcanic forces combined with erosion have created some of the most stunning scenery in the country - I kid you not! The north and western coasts of the island are full of incredibly impressive coastal cliffs. The best known and most easily accessible cliffs are called Kuniga and Matengai, and are linked by a 2km long hiking trail. Matengai sits 250 meters above the sea, at the top of a nearly vertical wall of volcanic rock. It is quite something! The clifftops are noted for unusual vegetation (for Japan), including lots of grasslands, and horses and cows are allowed to graze freely here. It's thus a rare spot in Japan where hikers can come toe to toe with cows and horses out doing their own thing. In addition to the cliffs, there's more volcanic fun, including lots of rocky islets, and a famous natural arch. It really is a beautiful and unique spot! Further to the south are more cliffs, as well as a couple of notable viewpoints. It's also possible to take a tourist boat around the cliffs, with sailings leaving from the previously mentioned Urago.
Ama
Ama is the flattest of the Dozen islands, or at least the north is. A couple of pretty valleys here are the only place in the Dozen's where rice is farmed. The south of the island is hilly and sparsely populated, with a rather wild cape at the very southern tip, where there's a little lighthouse. There are only a select number of places of interest on Ama.
AKIYA COAST - This is a beautiful little spot by the sea, in the northeast of the island. There are some lovely red-and-black volcanic cliffs here, an isolated little cove, lots of rocky islets off-shore. It's the island's number one scenic spot. It's been very lightly developed, with a public toilet, very simple campsite, and little else.
KONKO-JI - This temple has some kind of connection to Emperor Go-Toba, though I have no idea what it is. In fact, the temple itself is difficult to comprehend. It's very basic! It lies at the top of a tall, steep hill, and the main reason to come up is for the great views over the island.
GO-TOBA SITES - Emperor Go-Toba spent nineteen years on Ama, and a cluster of sites around his former "palace" (anywhere that an Emperor lives is automatically a palace!) celebrate the island's most famous resident. The ruins of the temple where he stayed are kind of interesting, with an old well and pond. Nearby is Go-Toba's main tomb. Apparently, most of the old emperor was buried here, though some of his bones were taken to Kyoto, where they were buried in Ohara. A separate tomb for him sits there, and is also open to the public, just behind the famous Sanzen-in. Back on Ama, there's also a small museum dedicated to Go-Toba (who was a noted poet and man of letters, as well as a failed government rebel), as well as the very grand Oki Shrine, dedicated to the Emperor, which dates from at least the early Edo period, though its present form is from the 20th century.
MURAKAMI HOUSE - Close to the Oki Shrine, this is a rather grand mansion built by a family of local notables. It's usually open as a museum, but is currently closed. The grounds are open, and are rather pretty.
Chibu
We didn't have time to visit Dozen's smallest inhabited island, with just 600 people and 600 cows. It appears to be little more than one, rather big hill. The main port, which appears to have very little, is on the north side of the island, though the main settlement is in the south. The island's best known tourist attraction are grand red cliffs, on the west coast. Presumably there's the chance to see some cows on the way there.

2020.09.23 06:38 PhoSho69 (M30) deciding if I should leave her (F24)

I'm (30M) and my gf is (24) This is going to sound like a story of every negative thing I can say about my gf.. this isn't a out of hate. I deeply care for her but I want a different life.
Backstory, we've been together for 4.5 years. Living together for almost 4 years. We have a house together and 2 dogs. I love her and care deeply for her. However that love has turned to some resentment and hopelessness.
I have a good career and in good health. I'm not perfect, I have anger issues and some more room for emotional growth. Over the years we've gone through a lot. When we dated I was a lot less concerned for the future and family planning. When we met we quickly became best friends, always hung out and started dated. He would have so much fun together still have fun together.
Our situation now: I'm away from home 50-60 hours a week for work. She doesnt work because she wants to focus on her mental health. I do about 80 percent of the house chores and stress about keeping it clean. Which I cant always do and our house is often messy and embarrassing to have guests over. I do all the cooking and laundry. She has trauma around cleaning and chores from her parents and says she working on it. I try to be understanding but it's hard. She received an inheritance two years ago and cant manage her spending. Like over 100k that's mostly spent on non essentials. She tried community college twice to get her grades up from high school to get into university. Missed too many classes/assignments and failed. Her excuse is she was changing medications both times and my insist pushing to stay on top of things made it too stressful. Every job shes had since we been together. Food service, call center, vet assistant. She would have problems with coworkers or her boss. She would eventually quit before 6 months. I'm paying for all the Bill's, mortgage and my financial freedom has be limited. Our communications have been difficult, mainly to my part of keeping things in and ignoring issues. I'm working on it and we've improved. However I still feel to be on egg shells. Worried I'll say something that'll be rude or make her blow up.
I dont think shes a selfish person. Shes aware she has severe mental health problems (bpd, ptsd) and thankfully she's working on them. Recieving new medications from her doctor (psychotics, depression) and has worked with a therapist for years until her mom kicked her off her benefits. Shes seeking disability support payments because she believes she cant work now.
She has no family support anymore. Her parents have been awful to her upbringing and shes gone "no contact" even her sister's have FB blocked her after she publicly aired grievances against her mother. Shes crushed and essentially I'm now her only support.
I'm feel awful. I want a more stable normal life. Possibly a partner who can equally contribute more to our home life. My gf keeps pushing the idea of getting engaged and have kids soon and I cant accept it in my mind. I want to give her everything but bringing a child into our lives has so much added responsibility, like I dont know how she'll have the energy to manage children. I'm scared to commit further into this relationship that I feel will inevitably implode. Can I risk more years of our lives together hoping that she'll become more healthy and help more but I'm losing hope. I feel guilty about what feels like I dragged her along for 4 years only to dump her. I dont even know what she'll do with herself because I'm afraid she might severely hurt herself. (On going self harming) or spend what she has left and become homeless.
I essentially been felt to feel trapped. Conflicted that I'm a bad boyfriend who's given up, who dhould be more supportive and actively working to improve her at every step.
On the flip side, I feel like I've done enough that I could, given her years of support and I see what our future together will not be how I envisioned it. I want to live separately, have my own space and my own self to look after.
I'm certain I know my answer is to move on. It just doesnt make it any easier having doubts in my decision to move on.
I cant really talk to anyone about this so I've turned to reddit. Thank for reading. Any questions I'll try to answer, I believe this fits in the guidelines of the subreddit.

2020.09.23 05:59 Lab_Quick I (25M) don't really fit in with my girlfriend's (24F) family.

I'm a 25 year old dude. I work as a corporate accountant. I grew up in a pretty upper class family. Basically all of my relatives are college educated, and have professional careers of some sort. I would say that my upbringing did reflect this demographic in a lot of ways - I did a high school trip to Italy, my parents are fairly well-informed about the world, etc. Extracurriculars were a big focus on my upbringing, and I still maintain a lot of these skills and passions to today.
I have a 24 year old girlfriend that's a nurse. She grew up in a smaller town. Her family is a lot different. Her dad works for water services in the town, and her mom has a receptionist job at the town hall. Nobody in her extended family went to 4 year colleges. Also, worth noting that they just have waaaay less disposable income than my whole family does. Not that they are poor by any means, but it is still a lot different.
We have been dating for about 7 months now. I would say that this relationship has definitely given me way more self awareness to my upbringing, and realizing that different people see the world way differently. Just by the career I'm in, and the neighbourhood I grew up in, I definitely exist in a bit of a more affluent and educated bubble.
The gist of it is that her family is super nice, but I don't really fit in with them.
They go out of their way to invite me to things, and are super nice. For example, they even scheduled the dad's birthday dinner to make certain I could be there. They are totally respectful and nice people.
But I find that I just don't really have a lot in common with them. I was there last week for a big family gathering, and it seemed like everyone just sat there all day talking about nothing. Honestly, it sounds so bad, but they'e all just a bit boring. This sounds brutal, but a lot her extended family especially don't really have 'a lot going on' in their lives. I just didn't really have anything to contribute.
The other thing is that they don't really ever ask me questions about myself.
In literally 10+ times I've met them, her dad has never asked a single question about my career, education, family, hobbies, etc. Her brother is the same. It's possible they might be intimidated by my background.
With that being said, I know they are really good people. Just not exactly my type of people.
Before you ask, my girlfriend is like her family in some of her ways and values, but we align perfectly when we are alone. I just notice the big culture shock when I visit her family.
Is this something I should worry about in our relationship?

2020.09.23 02:18 PMAwkward_Throwaway Aggressive Property Manager

First off, I'd like to start by saying that my fiancee and I got caught with another dog in our rented house, therefore violating the pet portion of our lease. This happened upon move in with my mother in law's dog. Since then, we have agreed with our property manager to add him to the lease, so he can be here in the future, and have submitted paperwork under her direction to do so. Since then, she's gotten very aggressive in her emails, threatening to involve her Broker if we have any more issues with her service, and when we asked her to loop someone in from her company to have oversight (she has sometimes taken up to a month to respond to our emails) she said she was politely declining and would not be CCing anyone else per our request.
I want to make sure that we are being treated fairly, and although we made a mistake we are owning up to it, and don't want further issues as a result, and she already agreed to rectify the situation and add our animal to the lease.
To further aggravate the situation, this is the same PM as our previous home, which was a complete dump when we moved in (had animal waste, dishwasher that had auto parts washed in it, mold etc.) When we moved out, she basically charged us up for everything she could find, even things that were present upon move in. We've been arguing about what is being charged to us, but she took our entire deposit plus $350 to repair this house, and we know from when we moved in this deposit is being used to make repairs to the house that we did not cause, but she is claiming that they have no documentation of it, which we have provided, but she has contested and isn't really giving us any way to further dispute.
My question is, what recourse do we have for reporting her to her own company? Is she able to rescind the offer to add our other dog if she gets upset with us, and does she have grounds to evict us, even after she acknowledged the issue and allowed us to fix it and a good amount of time has passed since she originally brought up the issue? She's definitely making it seem so. Her phrase "if we continue to have issues, I will be happy to get my Broker involved" seems very threatening, especially because my fiancee and I are trying to be as peaceful as process but trying to make sure we aren't being screwed, but she may be within her rights. We have been extremely sure to not be threatening or aggressive in any way, but she responded to me listing dates of contact etc. with this apparent threat. Any advice in any manner would be appreciated. We have a perfect rental history and a landlord who reaches out to us every year to see if we want to move back into one of his properties, so outside of this one issue we have done nothing but maintain and repair everywhere we have lived. I am sure some people will say "you get what you deserve" but honestly, that's not what I'm here for. I get that. I am just trying to get advice to keep us safe as we move forward and try to repair the relationship, but want to make sure we are not being threatened and tread upon just because she thinks she has us backed into a corner.
For reference, we are in Colorado.

2020.09.22 23:50 notliveworthy Doctor Spiegel Operates A Clandestine Teaching Practice

Hey all it’s Chloé and I just wanted to take the time to share my story with you. I've shared this on several FB groups and have been encouraged to share it here. So here it goes! It's a long read, although I hope it helps girls as they seek surgeons for FFS.
Introduction
First off and most importantly to know is that Dr. Spiegel operates a clandestine teaching practice. A fact not widely known as his entire practice hides this vital information from all patients unless they happen to inquire. This said, I was never told and never thought to ask so by default, became one of those patients. The result, I was operated on by a student without my permission.
So what does “teaching practice” mean? Well in short it means that a practice is a training ground for up-and-coming students. And if you contract with one of these practices, there’s a more-likely-than-not chance that you'll be operated on by a student not Spiegel. And since he doesn't actually ask for patients permission, you'll never know.
To patients who have used Spiegel, I encourage you to request your Operation Report (OR) report. I was at Boston Medical and it was easy. In most cases it's a free service. When you get the file, look to see if there was another MD listed with Spiegel. If so, this was not a generic “assistant” as his consent forms suggest, but the fellow training under him. This said, ask yourself this; were you ever told he uses fellows or if a student could operate on you?
Hippocratic Oath
I feel a good starting point is to remind folks that the entire modern day medical system has been built by doctors and hospitals to protect doctors and hospitals. Medicine and patient care is second to that foundation. And that’s the underlying narrative I want to share my experience around. Specifically, The Hippocratic Oath.
A hippocratic oath may seem to be just an empty narrative used as a plot point in a Lifetime movie, however it's so much more. Among other things at its core is to, "first do no harm.” Which in short means a commitment to do everything in your power to heal or otherwise make life better for your patient. And no doubt if you ask any doctor about their commitment to their patients, they’ll go on-and-on about the gravity of this oath.
Well what of the doctors who don't? What of the doctors who lose sight of the patient in front of them because they're looking to the next patient and the next cash or insurance payout? How do we as patients discern what a doctor's motive really is?
Safe to say an ER surgeons entire life revolves around one thing; saving lives. But what of the Pediatrician, Dentist and of course Plastic Surgeon? In almost all cases these are not "life or death" situations, so where does a non-triage doctor see themselves within the, "first do no harm” narrative?
Well I had to learn the hard way. For that oath has come to mean a great deal to me since having my FFS with Dr. Spiegel and The Spiegel Center back in March of 2018. As I can testify that, that oath means exactly nothing to Dr. Jeffrey Spiegel.
One would think that if you have your patients best interest in mind you would do everything in your power to provide the highest level of care that today's medicine, technology and technique can provide. You’d remain on top of all things within your practicing field of medicine. Alas with Spiegel this isn’t the case.
Why is anyones guess, be it extended tenure or a runaway ego. All I can tell girls is that a consult with him is akin to listening to a car salesman ensure you that you’re getting, “the best car on the lot.” Only to drive away and realize that the Ferrari you paid for is is actually just a Toyota Camry... or worse.
At first blush one could argue that opening and maintaining a teaching practice is an extension of the hippocratic oath. To which would be completely true if you were being honest in your literature and consultations. Something which The Spiegel Center does their best to conceal from their patients.
Students absolutely need to learn and we need teachers to teach them, however what happens when that teacher simply doesn’t tell patients who will be performing the surgery? Would this be a situation where a doctor has drifted away from his oath?
What would-be patients need to understand is that the Spiegel Center’s Transgender FFS Program is not high end cutting edge medicine, it’s a vocational school.
Dr. Spiegel teaches students a basic in-and-out barebones method. This is why he refuses to invest in technology that could help him build comprehensive individualized surgical plans. His practice simply has no need for them.
As a single example would be sutures. Modern day tech has robotic closing technology which creates hundreds of micro stitches along large entry points. And as one can imagine, "the close" is a major part of the (Type III) forehead conturing procedure.
That incision more than any other, needs to be a clean close with an eye to the aesthetic result. And here is a teacher who could care less about that technology and instead continues with massive traditional 'Frankenstein' hand suturing.
Collectively Spiegel's practice is a confluence of less than ideal realities. From his half-fast laissez faire consultations and clandestine fellowship program to a refusal to employ any technology whatsoever and refusal to take ownership or absorb revision costs, Spiegel has in my opinion, disregarded his hippocratic oath.
My Story
During my initial consult Spiegel poked at my face for all of ten minutes and smiled as his team put together a 57K cash quote for 8 procedures. He never took a single measurement or employed any tech whatsoever.
Lacking any of todays insight I would come back months later with insurance and commit to surgery with him. Due to that insurance dynamic, I couldn't get 8 procedures done, instead I could only get 4. Learning post-op that my insurance was charged 56K for half of the work, (36K going directly to Spiegel himself) and I scheduled my surgery date. Making perfectly clear that,
I WAS NEVER TOLD HE OPERATED A TEACHING PRACTICE AND NEVER ASKED IF A STUDENT COULD OPERATE ON ME.
So on March 15, 2018 I went under the knife. I had Type III forehead with scalp advancement and brow lift. An open Rhinoplasty. Chin Implant and Tracheal shave. I was under for less than 4 hours. Type III's alone take most surgeons 4-6 hours.
As the first days post-op wore on I knew something wasn't right. I had a massive (Xtra-Large) potato size implant in my once narrow jawline which scared me to death. It has masculinized my lower face.
I had what appeared to be a lifted forehead, only to watch the incision open up and turn to massive scarring, skin wrinkling, lumpiness and my brows flatline. Hair would fall out and never return and my hairline was only advanced on one side. Lastly I now had this dent/trench between my eyebrows. Visible when I smile.
Meanwhile my nose was, (and remains) a mess. I struggle to breath due to collapsed nasal passages, came away with a deviated septum, it runs off center and the bridge looks like it was ignored completely. In short it looks like I've been in a fight. Lastly my tracheal shave seemed meh at best with a lumpy pimple like scar emerged.
I was a mess and reached out to Spiegel's office. They were all manner of supportive. Verbally anyway. So was Spiegel. The marching orders were and remained for months, "ya have to let it heal" and "don't worry we will do whatever it takes to make you happy."
Well it healed alright. And so emerged a complete botch job top to bottom. And that promise to make me happy? Well that was nothing more than a can they were kicking down the road for 6 months. And when the time finally came, it came with a 7K price-tag. I balked. They took absolutely no ownership and ignored me. So I walked away. My head spinning I fell apart.
In the years since I’ve done some extensive research and have a new understanding and appreciation of just how fellowship programs are administered. As such have come to the conclusion that Dr Spiegel never even touched me. It was his then fellow, Dr. Laura Garcia Rodriguez. And if Spiegel did operate, he was obviously rushing with another patient in mind. Remember I was under for less than 4 hours for a series of surgeries that normally take twice as much.
All told I have suffered beyond words. My face post FFS is a disgusting dysphoric mess. I mean take a look below. This is what $56,000 worth of Dr. Spiegel’s time looks like.
Mind you I am petite, look, sound and act very feminine. And without my hair and makeup to hind behind, I can dress as a man and never be mis-gendered. And even then, I'm constantly clocked and horribly scarred, cannot breath, and now have a more masculine lower face because of this massive implant.
In so many ways I represent the perfect storm of how transgender medicine goes wrong. I'm the victim of an arrogant, profit seeking, dishonest and yes... negligent doctor. And I will testify under oath to that end.
Closing & Suggestions
So what happens when an established plastic surgeon has an ego that far exceeds his talents? One who employs antiquated and honestly outdated processes, while also doubling as a teacher to aspiring students? Is he doing no-harm? Or is he actually causing it?
Spiegel end-rounds informed consent because he knows that nobody is ever going to agree to having a student operate on them when they came to the self proclaimed, ”best in the world" for their surgery. So by that omission alone, what’s the hippocratic oath worth when your doctor doesn't care about you the patient, but rather how much he can charge for a bare minimum amount of time and investment?
I suggest that:
We deserve to know who’s operating on us. Our surgeons should be compelled to disclose that they and they alone are performing the work that we’re paying for. Or obtain a patients informed consent if they seek to utilize a student in the surgery. And that this informed consent is asked for and obtained verbally and in writing before surgery and again verbally and in writing at the day-of surgery.
We deserve to have a surgeon who doesn’t just offer modern technology, but demands it be used in their practice. From basic things like X-Rays and CT-Scans to computer software that the doctor can use to help us create a custom surgical plan. If they don’t, find a surgeon who does.
Obtain an in-writing guarantee that should any revisions be needed, that all associated costs will be absorbed by the doctor and practice without exception.
Lastly, (where I was never asked) I’ve heard the newest thing is that some doctors/practices are asking patients to sign a non-disclosure agreements. I cannot stress enough how sketch and unethical these demands are.
I’ll go on record and suggest that these are born from loud patients like myself who have publicly called their doctors practice and ethics into question. Refuse to sign them, and if they balk, report them to the BBB and the medical review boards of your state.
Thanks again for reading and remember to research and educate yourself before seeking a surgeon. So that when you do, you can choose one that has your best interest in mind. Remembering that if you’re paying for the Ferrari, be sure you’re going to drive away in one.

2020.09.22 22:46 onesh I'm lost in my own life....

First of all, sorry for my english, i'm not a very good at it.
So, before I start telling you what is going on, let me just say that i perfectly understand that there are a LOT of people in a worst place than I am, but I just can't avoid to get this thoughts....
(If you don't want to read the full story, just jump to the conclusion)

Relationships:
It was the main reason everything started going downhill for me. I'm a 22 years old guy now, but in 2017 I was only in my 19/20s, since high school i've been actually not bad with girls, when I was 14 i dated for like 9 months with a girl (it was a long distance relationship), after that started dating with another girl from my class for about 2 years and right before finishing highschool I met this girl... she was an amazing person, very pretty, a decent girl in terms of everything. We started dating half through our senior year and kept dating for 4 years... until it ended, and it was ALL my fault.
The relationship was perfect, until it wasn't. One bad decision made everything go downhill. The downfall began when I went to a mountain with a few friends (just guys) and there was no cellphone service, I told my gf that it would happen, said that I would call her when I was on my way back. I left the phone in the car and went to enjoy the day at the sea with my friends, it was like 4/5 hours max without service. When we got back to the car, I grabbed my phone and it had no service whatsoever, we started our way back to the town when my phone started vibrating like hell... i had like 15 calls from her, 10 messages and i went like "wtf is going on?". Started reading it and she was saying that i was an idiot, she was worrided and called me a liar just because a friend that was with me could post pictures on instagram and I didn't answer (my friend went to the top of the mountain or wtv to post that pic), all sort of things a crazy girl would say tbf. I started apologizing eventhough it wasn't my fault, called her, tried to explain and she was treating me like shit. It went for almost a week with me saying sorry and she saying that I disrespected her and wtv. I went nutts.
Got home, started my PC, went to Steam and my ex (she was a gamer) was always inviting me to play or wtv, and I always said no, but that day I accepted, we went to discord and had a chat with a few other guys in there. And after that, we started talking more and more. I was still dating with my gf, but after that fight because of the moutain, something in me clicked and I just couldn't see her the same way, so I started "pushing her away" (mentally ofc). On the opposite, my ex was starting to get more and more close, until we actually went out and everything... After a few months, I went to her college (my ex) to study Multimedia and Videogames (that decision fucked my entire career), but i was actually blinded for my feelings, in a few months I felt for that girl what i never felt for any other girl. 3 months later found out that she was dating another guy (from my class).
That couple of months after the mountain thing were the biggest mistake of my life, to hurt such a good girl (my gf) because of a piece of shit like my ex. To answer what you must be asking yourselves, yes I did cheat on my gf. And yes, I know that I'm a piece of garbage that doesn't deserve anything.
After almost a year, I saw my ex (the one that had another guy) in a college event, looked her into the eyes and she turned her head away almost like she was ashamed of herself. I said nothing, enjoyed the event with my mates and that was it. A few days later she texted me, saying she was sorry that it was a dumb decision and wtv, I answered saying it was ok, it was in the past and that we were good. Then she started inviting me again and again to play, i was a fucking idiot and i still loved her, so i thought she changed. Guess what? She didn't. It all went well in the summer, when college started she dumped me outta nowhere and I saw her with the other guy, again. The problem? I forgave her after that. We dated (like really dated), until she broke up with me again outta nowhere :')
That was it. After what i went through (eventhough i know i deserved, i blame myself everyday for what i did to the other girl, trust me) i could never talk to a girl the same way i was doing before, I lost all my confidence.
1 year after, met a girl on Tinder, she was super cool, super chill, totally my vibe. We talked for a month or wtv, went on dates for like a month, she kissed me, almost had sex in the car, all fine. I was actually starting to trust her and liking her, until she dumped me, outta nowhere, again :') (and when I say she dumped me, she ghosted me, like, real ghosting).
Professional life:
I ended my studies last year (2019) in Multimedia Production and Videogames, and it gave me a level V degree (it's the degree before being graduated in college), after that I started working in Pull&Bear on a mall in my city, it was my first job and I was enjoying it, until they fired me without a concrete reason after a month. But they fired a lot of people at the same time so I didn't thought that I did anything wrong, just got fired cause they had too many people or whatever.
After a month or so, I started working in another store, this time it was a technology store on another mall. The difference this time is that i didn't like it at all, i was working full time and everyday that i woke up it was like a nightmare to go to work... so i quit after 3 months or so (mainly because they wanted me to go to another store that was far from my house). A few weeks later i went to work to another store, it only lasted a week. Are u starting to see the pattern here?
I have a huge problem, I can't seem to stay in a job for a while, I start to get these thoughts that eventually stop me from wanting to go to work, and some other times I get the exact opposite thoughts and get all hyped up thinking about the cool things I have, but these ones only last like a minute or so. Even knowing that I have these problem, I just can't fix it. It's inside me so hard that it just clicks.
After that experience in stores, I just thought it wasn't a job for me and decided to start searching a job in my area. Mission failed. I couldn't find anything.
I feel the pressure of having to find a job, sent way over 100 curriculums and got like 10 answers all saying no. A few of my friends even joke with me saying that "you will work for a month and get out", "shut up and find a job lazy", and i just sit there, i laugh.. but inside i'm crying. I'm so young, but I can't even go to college and get a decente degree (graduate) because I don't have the courage to tell all this to my parents.
Now, I talked with a group of friends that are unemployed and we thought about creating our own company, to do some work for free to build a portfolio and actually start working together to create our own thing... it was my idea to do this... guess what? The thoughts are back. I'm getting these anxiety that it just won't work. I need help. I dont know what to do.
Conclusion
I don't know what to do with my life. I'm completely lost. I feel empty. Sometimes i get these thoughts in my head on what life would be for the ones around me without me here. Not gonna lie, sometimes i thought how I would kill myself (for a brief moment). I'm so lost. I've good friends, and my parents love me so much, but that's it. I don't have a purpose in life, I can't motivate myself to find anything that makes me enjoy life much more. I feel so alone. I miss having a gf to share everything...
And the worst part of all? It's all my fault. I did it to myself, i sabbotaged my own life in a glimpse of an eye.
I'm sorry for this huge text, I guess i needed to get this out of my chest with people that don't know who I am.

2020.09.22 21:29 IrisuKyouko [TOMT] [Short story] [pre-2000] A sci-fi story about commercialized love

The plot:
The story follows a male protagonist who encounters a young woman in a park. The woman seems to not fit well into society just as the protagonist, and they hit it off right away. Throughout their interaction it seems that their chemistry is completely natural and genuine, and that the protagonist found a soulmate in her.
At the end she reveals that she works for a company providing dating/romance services, and their interaction was a service sample of sorts. Her behavior was completely fabricated and personalized for him to an uncanny degree, perfectly acting out the exact kind of person he was yearning to meet. The story ends with him running away in shock while she's quickly reading out the company's advertisement at his back.
Additional details:
I read the story somewhere in the 00s, but it was from an older sci-fi short story anthology, probably published somewhere between the 60s and 90s. (since I remember the paper not being very fresh)
Not sure how it helps, but I read it in Russian. However, I'm pretty sure all the stories in that book were by Western writers - it was the kind of anthology that would have the likes of Ray Bradbury and Robert Sheckley in it. In fact, I was sure it was a Bradbury's story at first, but I couldn't find it among his works.

A few years ago I worked at a Beauty Supply Store where the average Joe/Sue/Sally could walk in and purchase their off brand hair supplies, hair dye, extensions, and acrylic supplies. We also offered a special customer card to professionals. The story I'm sharing today is a story revolving around your regular dumb Sally.
See, Sally was an acquaintance of mine, we had similar friends, and she seemed ok - very stuck up and unknowing of how the world works, but...ok enough.
Sally was in the market for some new extensions, and we sold some pretty decent quality ones for about $100, with a VERY strict "no return" policy that we were required to state at the time of purchase and it was listed on the back of EVERY receipt, regardless of what you purchased.
So Sally is looking at extensions, and I'm showing her the hair, and comparing it to the hair on her head. She's in love! buys the damn hair that matches perfectly.
That weekend, I find out she decided to drunkenly dye her hair a purple/brown tone, that is pretty dark, especially in contrast to her bleach blonde barbie hair that she was growing out.
Guess who wanted to return that wasted $100 set of extensions?
If you guessed Sally - you get half a cookie. If you guessed Sally's grandmother who was not there when she made this stupid purchase - you get a whole box of cookies because somehow you can read minds.
Well Irate Granny shows up and our conversation went something like this
M : Me
IG : Irate Granny
*cue scene
IG : I'd like to get a refund on these extensions my grandaughter just bought last week
M : Oh, i'm sorry, but it is company policy that we do not allow returns for any type of hair.
IG : the woman that sold these to my grandaughter told me when we bought them that we could get a refund if we didn't like them, and I expect you to honor that
M : *looking at receipt for the date of service and realize that the customer was f**king Sally - Ma'am, I was the ones that sold these to Sally, and I told her then and there that there are no refunds, and made sure she wanted to make this purchase.
IG : you were NOT f**king there, I.WAS. so if you don't refund me RIGHT NOW, I want to talk with your manager
M : right away!!!! <3 (The manager proceeded to state the same thing, and pointed out the multiple places where NO REFUNDS ON HAIR is written on the receipt with a highlighter)
Later on I ended up running into F**king Sally, and chewed her a new butthole as I had received a bad review through corporate over her not freaking listening to me. Pointed out how her B of a grandmother nicely forgot to point out how she was trying to return something that was freaking unreturnable, and made it seem like I was refusing her service.
I pointed out how crappy it was of her to do something like to this to anyone, and I don't care if she is new to my hand shaped state, straight out of cali, you don't crap on people because you stupidly decided to dye your hair a dark color right after blowing $100 on freaking extensions. Thankfully she didn't return to any beauty supply store that I worked in.

To deliver efficient B2C email marketing campaigns, you need to understand what B2C email marketing is all about, how it is different from B2B email marketing, what best practice to use and the perfect B2C email marketing examples.

The Nature of B2C Email Marketing

Business-to-consumer or B2C marketing refers to any marketing concept, tactic or strategy where a company promotes its products/services directly to individual consumers. While B2C email marketing focuses on the emotion-driven purchase decision process, B2B email marketing focuses on logical process-driven purchase decisions.
B2C email marketing targets the needs, interests and requirements of people whose purchase decisions are directly made by the consumers themselves. Unlike B2B email marketing where the purchase is made on behalf of or for a business.
B2C email marketing is considerably different from B2B as the products/services promoted, and consequently the email content, vastly differ depending on the targeted audience. Yet, both email marketing strategies have similar conversion-focused goals.

Here’s what the B2C email marketing stats are saying –

a) 59% of consumers state marketing emails influence their purchase decision-making;
b) 80% of B2C customers utilise email marketing campaigns to nurture their audiences;
c) B2C marketers adopting marketing automation witness conversion rates as high as 50%;
d) 39% of B2C businesses distribute personalised product/service recommendations to their subscribers via email;
e) consumers check personal emails for an average of 5 hours each weekday;
f) the most commonly used type of automated marketing emails is the ‘welcome’ email, used by 58% of B2C marketers;
g) the other types of marketing emails used by B2C marketers are event emails (55%), promotional emails (52%) and newsletters (48%);
h) the perfect days of the week to send B2C emails are Tuesday and Thursday;
i) Saturdays have the highest conversion rate for B2C emails;
j) Fridays have the highest open rate than any other weekday, including the weekend; and
k) email has an ROI of 42:1.

The Difference Between B2C and B2B Email Marketing

B2C and B2B email marketing may have the same goals – communicating with customers, promoting products/services and effectively guiding prospects through the buying cycle. However, there are a few key differences between B2C and B2B email campaigns email marketers must keep in mind to maximise their email marketing ROI.
B2C email marketing presents both different opportunities and challenges than its counterpart B2B email marketing. Hence, a B2C email marketing strategy must be approached in a completely different way in all areas – from email design and content through target audience to delivery.
https://preview.redd.it/pntj46nk3oo51.png?width=1024&format=png&auto=webp&s=00ed7e4efc4e819e568b98805ad6d6fec9299de9
B2C email marketing’s main goal is to convince people to purchase products/services for their personal use. However, when purchasing goods/services for themselves rather than a business, the purchasing decision process is based on different criteria such as –
a) perceived value and evoked emotion – rather than considering the price, B2C consumers focus on how valuable a purchase would be and how it makes them feel;
b) brand loyalty – with B2C consumers brand loyalty plays a major role, unlike B2B where brands matter less. After all, certain brands offer values such as comfort, exclusivity, success, etc. all of which are feelings B2C consumers want to identify with; and
c) emotions instead of features – contradictory to B2B clients, B2C ones do not base their purchase motivations on logic, financial incentives or calculated decisions. They base it on emotions – how a purchase will make the buyer feel (or look) instead of the features of the product/service.
Maximising your email marketing ROI is often a time-consuming and Herculean job. However, if you know the four key differences between B2B and B2C email marketing, achieving your strategic goals will feel like a walk in the park.

1) The Buying Cycle

B2B: the buying cycle usually takes longer to convert prospects into leads and consequently into customers since you have to impress and convince a diverse range of people before a purchase decision is reached. Such a lengthy buying cycle where the result – a purchase – is accomplished can only be achieved by strategically dripping content over an extended time period.
B2C: the buying cycle is shorter since your B2C email marketing campaigns are directly addressing a targeted audience and focusing on the consumers’ more emotional and impulsive nature. The B2C decision-making process does not involve outside opinions as the consumer is making the purchase decision himself/herself. The B2C sales funnel targets a specific audience and involve only four steps –
1) opening the email, 2) clicking on the call-to-action (CTA), 3) being redirected to a landing page, and 4) completing a purchase.

2) The Tone

B2B: with B2B email campaigns the tone of voice tends to be more professional, objective, results-oriented and factual. In these email campaigns, marketers emphasise on the financial benefits of a product/service and letting the recipients know precisely what value they are getting for their money. The use of a more technical, industry-specific wording is often more appropriate rather than the casual, friendly tone in B2C emails.
B2C: with B2C email campaigns the tone of voice is more personal, casual even, and the wording is relatable and easy to comprehend. Often, B2C emails create urgency which targets the recipients’ emotional triggers.

3) The Content

B2B: the consumers’ response rate to B2B email marketing campaigns isn’t quite as quick and immediate as with B2C emails since the buying cycle with B2B is longer. In addition to designing a campaign with a non-promotional, educational content (like whitepapers or case studies), email marketers should also focus their email’s content on the industry’s pain points and place the sender (you) as the go-to source for solutions.
B2C: consumers’ responses to B2C email marketing campaigns are usually immediate and based on emotions. Thus, it’s imperative for your B2C email to communicate the value of your product/service quickly and definitively, as well as, to ensure your call-to-action (CTA) is optimised efficiently. Make sure your B2C email content creates a sense of urgency that prompts an immediate response. However, to do that, you first need to know your audience – what are their needs and interests, what motivates them, how can your content help them improve their skills, etc. If your B2C email content is not hitting all the right spots with its amazing value to the recipients, they will not come even close to responding to the call-to-action.

4) The Timing

B2B: Normal people, a.k.a 9-to-5 office workers, usually don’t check B2B emails at home. Thus, if your targeted audience is made up of such recipients, then the optimal time to send would be within business hours and advisably mid-week. Though, if your email list consists primarily of entrepreneurs and ‘workaholics’ (both tend to check their emails all day, every day), the weekend might also be an option to reach them.
B2C: Consumers, a.k.a people who don’t compulsively check their emails and sit in front of Gmail all day Monday through Friday, typically check B2C emails post-work. According to research, over 25% of marketing emails are opened in the post-work peak (from 5 to 7 p.m.) time, with other stats pointing out that consumers check personal emails for an average of 2.5 hours each weekday. Furthermore, various studies point out that the best days of the week for sending B2C email blasts are Tuesday and Thursday. However, people receive the most amount of emails mid-week. Therefore, if you want to have less competition in the consumers’ inbox, consider sending your B2C email campaign on other days of the week.
Even though these sending times and days are quite a useful starting point, testing is the most effective method of determining the optimal email sending times for your particular business and industry sector. Also, reports and analytics from a professional email marketing platform will be particularly useful for identifying the perfect time and the most optimal day to send your B2C email campaigns. Why? Because a sophisticated reporting system will give you a time and date stamp making sending your B2C email marketing blast at the right time on the right day extremely easy in future.

B2C Email Marketing Best Practice

Do you know how to provide value to your subscribers? As email marketers, you already have a B2C email marketing strategy in place. However, with some tweaks and the use of top B2C email marketing best practice, you can ensure your B2C email campaign delivers value to your subscribers. Hence, before revealing the top B2C email marketing examples, here are the top five best practices for you to implement.

1) Data and Segmentation

By regularly monitoring the ongoing behaviour of your recipients, you will gain the market intelligence to make decisions and changes to your strategy based on the recipients’ likes, dislikes, engagement and, most importantly, buyer behaviour. This process will help you build highly-targeted B2C email marketing campaigns which are based on your subscribers’ activity.
Secondly, since your consumers are at different stages of the buying cycle, email list segmentation is essential. Your B2C email campaigns should approach them with different targeted messages depending on the stage they are at.
Last, but certainly not least, if you cannot collect the above data from the get-go, make sure to gather at least the basic info such as email address and first name for the minimum of personalisation. Landing page data is also useful for future segmentation as it would help you get a better idea of your subscribers’ interests and needs so you have an indication of the product or service they are interested in.
For example, if a client clicked on product X on landing page X then you can use that data to tailor a B2C email based on that specific buyer behaviour. For instance, Jane was looking for anniversary gifts and visited that specific gift section on your website resulting in her making a purchase.
Once you have the basics, you can plan a strategy about collecting additional data that will help your specific business in its goals – competitions and surveys are good ways for gathering further data with the promise of a time-limited percentage discount coupon encouraging subscribers to participate. This will also give you trigger points to communicate with subscribers about their specific requirements in future.

2) Personalisation

Personalising your emails is an essential part of any (and all) email marketing campaigns. It is also the best way to ensure conversions. Personalised emails get 6 times higher transaction rates, boost open rates by 26% and revenue is almost 18 times higher. Once you’ve segmented your email lists, you will be able to create and deliver even more highly-personalised B2C email campaigns based on your subscribers’ interests, preferences, location, age, gender, buying cycle stage, occupation, etc.
The three main elements of a highly-personalised B2C email campaign are –
a) relevant content – creating buyer personas will help you nail this one,
b) perfect timing – should you send daily, weekly or monthly, and
c) personalisation – are you going to buy a Prada bag from John Doe or from Prada Italy which you recently signed up for? B2C clients’ expectation (at minimum) is for brands to address them by their name. However, a successful B2C email campaign goes beyond the subscribers’ first name. You need to ensure the content you deliver is specifically tailored to the subscribers’ interest, likes, needs and preferences. Take Amazon for example. Their product recommendations based on consumers “shopping trends and browsing history” are commonplace. Netflix is yet another example of offering highly-personalised content to customers with their “top picks for [Customer Name]” or “because you watched [movie name]”. Remember, B2C clients buy from brands.
Ah, and don’t forget, your content must – without a doubt – appeal to the consumers’ emotion. After all, their purchase decision is motivated by what they feel.

3) Design and Mobile optimisation

While B2B customers are accustomed to text-heavy, minimalistic designed email campaigns, B2C consumers are completely different. The latter, prefer simplistic, easy to navigate, text-light emails with one clear call-to-action. Thus, use design to your advantage. From relevant imagery and educational videos to bold text and font colour, make sure your B2C email campaign is eye-catching, creates a sense of urgency, delivers value, appeals to the consumers’ emotions and, most of all, that it is easy to navigate (I know I said it already but it bears repeating).
Lastly, don’t forget to optimise your B2C email campaigns for the small screen. All of the stats I’ve come across show that B2C emails get 47.8% more opens on mobile than B2B emails. Hence, your B2C emails must be optimised for the small screen. If they are not, you risk lower conversion rates and consequently, a substantial decrease in revenue.

4) Subject lines and call-to-action (CTA)

The few words in your subject line are the first thing recipients see. It’s the make-it or break-it moment for your B2C email campaign. According to stats, 47% of recipients open emails based on the subject line alone. Therefore, make sure you’ve crafted the perfect short, compelling and personalised subject line that’ll leave the recipients with no other option but to open your B2C email since they are dying with curiosity to find out what the email content will reveal. Also, remember that the optimal length for a subject line is 43 characters; with a maximum length of 60 characters.
Now, let’s turn our attention to the call-to-action (CTA). I know you want to make sure the recipients take action when interacting with your email. However, remember that overwhelming them with tons of different CTAs will do more harm than good. In the end, they’ll probably ignore the entire email and do absolutely nothing at all. Instead, focus on crafting one clear, prominent and perfectly placed CTA allowing your targeted audience to focus on your email’s content and consequently on one action.

5) Preferences

76% of brands send B2C emails according to a frequency determined by the business itself. Yet, only 24% of consumers state they agree, and prefer, for a business to predetermine how often the brand communicates with them. However, 49% of consumers strongly prefer to sign up for brands’ email lists where they can choose what emails to receive and when.
As much as a business’s ego can be bruised by a consumer unsubscribing, it does happen. Don’t keep your subscribers hostage if they want to leave. Instead, include both an unsubscribe link (which is a legal requirement) and a preference centre link in your B2C emails. Give consumers the option to make a choice be it unsubscribing, changing the frequency of your brand’s emails or the type of email they receive from you (i.e. special offers, newsletter, events, webinars, blog updates, etc.).

B2C Email Marketing Examples

If you’re wondering what sort of B2C emails to send, here are seven B2C email marketing examples that, if implemented correctly, will help you engage, convert and provide value for your consumers.

1) Welcome emails

These introductory messages are email marketers’ first chance to make a great impression on new subscribers by introducing their company and how their products/services can deliver value. You’ve heard the phrase ‘love at first sight’, right? Well, by crafting an effective onboarding email series, you’ll ensure that “the love” will happen even at second sight; and why not at third sight, too.

2) Purchase confirmation emails

Transactional emails such as these present email marketers with an opportunity to seize the momentum of a recent purchase. Thus, give the consumer information about their purchase/order; and, use the opportunity to engage them further by either offering similar products/services or asking for their feedback on related products/services. Utilising this type of email is proven to generate 8 times more opens and click-throughs and 6 times more revenue.
https://preview.redd.it/glswcudp3oo51.png?width=498&format=png&auto=webp&s=363e03f90db223e319d65edc3ca94af55c92d38e

3) Shipping/order confirmation emails

How often do you ‘track’ a purchase once you’ve received the confirmation email? With these emails, brands can keep consumers in the loop regarding their order’s delivery and any other related updates. By including a couple of key elements and adding a bit of creativity, these transactional emails will help you build customer loyalty, improve on your brand’s post-purchase customer experience and make your brand easily distinguishable.
https://preview.redd.it/t18ztnyq3oo51.png?width=360&format=png&auto=webp&s=ce6aab3bffa7b3c09c7406e90605137636e9b429

4) Cart abandonment emails

Email marketers utilise this type of email to ‘inspire’ consumers who didn’t complete their buying process to do so. Why not encourage them by offering a one-time discount on their first-time purchase? According to stats, 81% of purchases made online are the result of targeted B2C email campaigns. Considering 75% of online shoppers leave websites without completing a purchase, these emails are a perfect opportunity to tip the scales in your favour.

5) Reminder emails

Businesses use these emails to reconnect with consumers at meaningful times of the buying cycle and remind them of the value their products/services can bring.

7) Re-engagement emails (or win-back emails)

If the subscribers on your email lists aren’t as active and engaged as they should or could be, don’t just dismiss them. Instead, try to re-engage inactive subscribers by giving them an email-exclusive offer, providing valuable advice or asking for their feedback/opinion. Moreover, stats point out that 45% of recipients who receive re-engagement emails will read subsequent emails from that brand.

b) brand loyalty – with B2C consumers brand loyalty plays a major role, unlike B2B where brands matter less.

6) Birthdays and Anniversary emails

With these milestone emails, brands can leverage personalisation and ensure each consumer feels special by awarding them a tailor-made offer.

Celine Nano Luggage in Vert D'eau from Non-TS Kelly, factory unknown
Welcome back to another review. I didn't receive anything for this review and just want to share my honest opinion. I bought 4 bags from Kelly so far and all of them are of amazing quality. But my pictures will speak for themselves :). I also added my thoughts right beneath them.
I'm not a native English speaker so if something is not described well enough feel free to ask some questions!
Seller: Kelly
Factory: Unknown
Whatsapp: +86 181 0014 0127
Price of item: 285 USD, free shipping
Order timeline:

My Photos
PSP
Factory
Authentic
Quality - 10/10
The bag is made of real leather and there was no FUFU smell. The leather smell was so strong that she spend the night outside though. The leather is buttery soft and has the same sheen as the auth to it. I conditioned twice with Leather Honey as I do with all my bags but it didn't change the feeling or the look of the bag, it was already so soft. There are no loose threads. The Logo stamp is clear and looks like the original, the inside "Made in Italy" stamp is accurate and so is the date code. If it mirrors a real one I can't say as I don't really mind them. The hardware feels sturdy and high quality.
Accuracy - 9.5/10
I have never seen the authentic version irl therefore this is based off the pictures on the official website and also some Nano Luggage reviews. I will compare to the auth so that members can see if this rep is worth it. Compared to the factory pictures the bag is spot on 1:1.
Satisfaction - 10/10
I'm more than happy with this bag. The size is perfect, it looks small but it fits so much. I will buy a felt organizer so it keeps it structure for long as the leather is so soft.
Seller Communication and service - 10/10
Kelly is a pleasure to work with. Her English is really good and she puts a lot of work and effort into finding the bag with the specifications that are important for you. She does a great QC herself and will RL bags with even minor flaws. She sends a ton of PSP and also videos and will always provide more pictures of details. I will buy another Nano Luggage in a different color from her soon.

The seven-competition tradition began there, but also saw stops in Los Angeles, California from 1962 to 1964, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from 1965 to 1984, and Las Vegas host since 1985 but in 2020 The National Finals Rodeo will move from its usual home in Las Vegas to Globe Life Field in Arlington in what would be the park’s first major non-baseball event since its opening this past spring.
Rodeo fans are eagerly waiting to see theNFR live stream. The National Finals Rodeo is not the only showcase of the best cowboys but also showcase of patience, bravery and spurs.

Everything You Need to Know About NFR

Beyond the payouts for the Cowboys, the PRCA estimates that the event brings in about $90 million annually to the Las Vegas economy. Furthermore, recent attendance stats have shown that 177,565 rodeo enthusiasts decked out in Wrangler jeans, Justin boots and cowboy hats attended events at the Thomas & Mack with an additional 40,000 fans who watched at the 40 hotels who hosted watch parties. It is during this rare time of the year that many marquees on the Strip have the face of bull riders replace DJs’ faces.

Main Performance

Seven main events have historically taken place at the NFR. Each event has its own monetary prizes that are paid out, and those payouts are determined by each top-placing competitor’s rank in relation to the event’s overall prize pool. Individuals placed in the top-six of a particular event are paid out accordingly, while individuals placed in the top-eight of the overall NFR are also paid out. The NFR’s main events are as follows:
  • Bareback Riding
  • This consists of a horseback cowboy using a bareback rigging as the primary means of staying on top of the horse. This grip has often been compared to the equivalent of hanging on to a suitcase handle and makes for the only support that a cowboy has on top of the wildly bucking horse. An 8-second ride constitutes a qualified ride and the cowboys is judged on riding technique.
  • Steer Wrestling
  • This act involves a horseback steer wrestler, alternatively known as a “bulldogger”, bringing a fast-moving steer to a halt on its back as fast as possible. The bulldogger utilizes a combination of strength, technique, speed, and precision to jump off of their horse from a designated starting point and onto a steer sprinting off from the same starting point.
  • Team Roping
  • Headers
  • One of two horseback team members whose job is to successfully rope the head of the steer in one of three tries as fast as possible; around both horns, around one horn and the head, or around the neck.
  • Heelers
  • One of two horseback team members whose job is to successfully rope the hind legs of the steer as soon as the header has successfully done their part. To avoid a 5-second penalty for roping only one hind leg, the heeler must rope both hind legs.
  • Saddle Bron Riding
  • Similar to Bareback Riding, the goal of the horseback cowboy is to maintain their balance as much as possible for 8 seconds while the horse is bucking. In this event, however, the cowboy sits on a saddle while using one hand to hold on to a thick rein that’s attached to the horse’s halter.
  • Tie-Down Roping
  • This event centers around a cowboy on horseback attempting to restrain a calf by throwing a well-timed rope loop that’s attached to the cowboy’s horse. The cowboy and the calf both leave from a designated starting point, with the calf getting a slight head-start. The cowboy depends on the horse to mitigate any slack in the rope after dismounting, then proceeds to tie-up the calf as fast as possible.
  • Barrel Racing
  • This is a women’s event where horseback cowgirls race against the clock to complete a strategically set course where barrels are set up as landmarks. The intent is for the cowgirls to complete a cloverleaf-shaped run around 3 barrels placed in a triangular formation as fast as possible. Barrels that are accidentally knocked over result in 5-second penalties.
  • Bull Riding
  • The cowboy on top of the bull has the main objective of staying on top and maintaining their balance for 8 seconds. They are judged based on technique and can earn extra points by spurring while the bull is bucking. The cowboy stays on top of the bull by grasping a flat braided rope, which also wraps around the bull’s chest.
  • All-Around Champion
  • Being crowned the All-Around Champion speaks volumes about the versatility and high level of talent exhibited by the winning cowboy. In order to receive this honor, the cowboy must have won the most prize money in a given year and competed in at least 2 NFR events while earning at least $3,000 in each of those events. This is widely known as the highest honor bestowed by the PRCA.

Contestants

There are 120 cowboys from all over the United States that will step foot as competitors within the NFR. A full list of the contestants can be found on the event’s Contestant Roster page. The top 10 ranked competitors are as follows:
  1. Tuf Cooper – Tie-Down Roping
  2. Trevor Brazile – Tie-Down Roping
  3. Sage Kimzey – Bull Riding
  4. Tim O’Connell – Bareback Riding
  5. Jacobs Crawley – Saddle Bronc Riding
  6. Caleb Bennett – Bareback Riding
  7. Ryder Wright – Saddle Bronc Riding
  8. Rhen Richard – Team Roping (Header)
  9. Shane Hanchey – Tie-Down Roping
  10. Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi – Barrel Racing

Super Bowl of Rodeo

The NFR has consistently been referred to with this phrase because of the sheer massiveness of its popularity and money-generating power within the context of rodeo. The event is considered to be so big and consistently sold-out that the UNLV basketball team that normally uses the NFR’s venue during the season has to annually build its schedule in a way that keeps the team on the road for the duration of the NFR festivities.

Miss Rodeo America

This event is a pageant that takes place in conjunction with the NFR as part of the NFR’s overall festivities. State rodeo queen winners from across the United States compete for the Miss Rodeo America crown and put themselves in line to potentially win $20,000, among other smaller prizes. In addition to the prizes, the winner is expected to travel to various rodeos throughout the United States and to promote the rodeo during the subsequent year.

Wrangler NFR Preshow

The former Miss Rodeo America titleholder is no stranger to the excitement of the “Super Bowl” of Western competition, with six years of WNFR reporting under her belt. She is most excited about bringing the pre-show to the fans. Be prepared for this Wrangler NFR Preshow, don’t miss a single moment of the Pro Rodeo live action.

Cowboy Christmas

For those that need a break from the constant adrenaline that comes with the NFR’s main events, the Cowboy Christmas experience allows for a welcomed change of pace. This portion of NFR centers around cowboy shopping and serves as a marketplace for hundreds of exhibitors from the United States and Canada to sell to thousands of eager buyers. Typically taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Cowboy Christmas will also move to Arlington, TX in 2020. All exhibitors will have the opportunity to Opt-In/Opt-Out for 2020.

Standings

The 2019 PRCA season has been extremely competitive as a lot of the top cowboys are gunning for glory. Tuf Cooper sits atop of the all-around standings and many experts believe that he is going to win his second all-around title in a row. There will be a lot of close competitions and many of the world championships could come down to the last day. You can check the current standings here.

NFR Prize Money

The total payout for the entire event is $10 million and will remain at that amount until 2020. After that, the amount will be adjusted and remain in place for the subsequent five years. All 120 qualifying contestants receive $10,000 as part of participating. This year’s detailed payout structure can be found on the PRCA’s 2019 Wrangler NFR Payoff page.

2020.09.22 05:40 leviathan235 Looking back at Hikigaya Hachiman

Now that the season is effectively over and the story of Oregairu is brought to a close, I thought I’d take this opportunity to share some insights I’ve gathered while reading through the LNs recently. The story is told through 8man's perspective, but it is often difficult to understand his motives and his philosophy since he’s a completely unreliable narrator. I’ll be writing a couple more of these later on as I gather my thoughts, but I figured there’s no better way to start than addressing the main character himself.

TLDR:

To summarize, 8man is a man who erected a defense mechanism for his ego/emotions after suffering through countless social traumas in his adolescence at the hands of his peers. Said defense mechanism manifests itself in the form of: (1) “pathological” cynicism, (2) a loner pride, whereby he frames the lack of social ties as a strength to be lauded rather than a weakness to be censured, and (3) an unwillingness to be vulnerable.

What was his past like?

8man was bullied, ridiculed, and ostracized all the way through up to middle school. He has tried repeatedly to reach out to others for the sake of platonic or romantic relationships, but to no avail. Each time, he approached others with basic expectations of good will and sincerity, and each time he was met with malice and deceit. There were innumerable examples in the text, so I’ll just pick a few random ones he’s mentioned to illustrate my point:

“Pathological” Cynicism:

If even the most basic assumptions of good will and sincerity are so frequently violated, he has no choice but to approach social interactions with the most cynical assumptions. It’s perfectly fine to be a cynic – it can be seen as tempering your expectations. But to doing it to the extreme extent of 8man causes more problems than it solves.
However, that cynicism isn’t always bad. 8man specializes at dealing with deceitful, malicious, and bad faith actors but struggles to handle honest people and honest problems (Yukino is the opposite – I will explore this in a future post). For instance, 8man was immediately able to see the ulterior motive in Sagami, when she approached the service club for aid in the cultural festival. While Yukino could not properly solve the Sagami problem, 8man stepped in on her behalf.

Loner pride:

Where did the whole “loner pride” come from? Simple, at some point, cognitive dissonance kicks into full throttle, and he starts rationalizing his loneliness as a desirable strength. (Note that “solitude” is by choice, whereas loneliness is not.) This is the classic case of “oh I didn’t win that prize? Well I never wanted it in the first place!” His loner pride asserts that:

Unwillingness to be vulnerable:

This is the biggest character flaw for 8man after the genuine scene, and the biggest barrier to that desired genuine relationship towards the end of the story. He has already largely renounced the aforementioned “pathological” cynicism and loner pride by the third season of the anime (V12 onward).
His unwillingness to be vulnerable is also a facet of his defense mechanism to make sure that he’s not hurt. Think of it like this: when you express your desire to be someone’s friend/romantic partner, you’re inherently making yourself vulnerable to rejection and thus emotional pain. This is why he always uses pretexts to stay close to Yukino. “I’m only staying involved with Yukino because of work! So even if she rejects me, it’s not because she doesn’t like me or anything.” He can then establish plausible deniability to himself, thereby sparing his ego.
Towards the end of the story, it becomes clear that this unwillingness to be vulnerable has been carved so deeply into his psyche, that it becomes an incredibly difficult impulse to overcome. Despite the fact that he KNOWS Yukino returns his feelings, he still has trouble verbalizing his own. For the entirety of V13, every single time somebody asks why he wants to keep helping Yukino despite her insistence against it, each and every time, he gives some excuse. Thankfully though, our boy overcomes this final barrier and opens himself up to Yukino during that confession scene. About damn time, I’d say.

Why does 8man always say he hates himself?

8man is a pragmatist utilitarian. In stark contrast to Yukino, he’s willing to do pretty much whatever it takes to achieve his immediate objectives, often to the detriment of his long-term self-interest, dignity, or relationships. The most straightforward example was when he was willing to grovel to Hayama and Muira during the tennis match. He also lies all the time, and often to the very people he cares about. Such a lowly, base way of living can make a person hate himself, and he definitely does. It’s all about self-respect – think about it this way: if you see someone who lies, cheats, and steals to get ahead, you can’t help but feel contempt. You yourself are not invulnerable to that same self-directed contempt if you behave similarly.

Why does 8man hate the superficial and want the genuine?

8man hates superficiality because it is founded on falsehood and deceit and conversely loves genuineness because it is founded on truth and sincerity. Superficiality is what he sees as so wrong in the world, especially in Japan where people are strongly pressured by society to don masks, as showing their real selves could cause conflict, and Japanese people loathe conflict and unpleasantness. Putting up a façade is suffocating – I’m sure everyone can attest to this. Oregairu also rebukes Japanese societal norms in general, and I’ll discuss that in a future post.
He’s tired of assuming the worst in people and misunderstanding (see: the genuine monologue). Keeping up that defense mechanism is extremely fatiguing and demoralizing – it’s just not a healthy state of mind. Imagine suspecting that everyone around you is out to get you; that gets exhausting fast. Furthermore, 8man is someone who lives true to himself – he doesn’t pretend to be someone he’s not. After all, this is the guy who loudly declares that he wants to live a carefree life as a househusband married to a rich woman.
I plan to properly define and characterize “the genuine” in a future post.

Why is his defense mechanism incompatible with the genuine?

Let’s go through the 3 facets one by one:
